I cheated on this moon shot...

...as I didn't use a manual lens but my beloved Pentax AF mount Sigma 500mm f/4.5 APO EX. Question: are there any older 500mm or longer lenses (pre-1980) that can do this equally well? I know from my 400mm f/5.6 Takumar that it suffered from a lot of CA.

I took this with a 400mm Osawa but had to crop it a bit.

Very nice shot indeed. I see something "green" at the transition from light to dark (top right of the moon). In a 100% crop, how does this look like?

Thanks. I did add a slight sepia hue to the image as well as a lot of other PP. I'm at work atm so can't look at the original. I'll post an untouched version tonight. The Osawa is only a cheap lens so it may well have something odd going on, but it's very light so worth keeping.

Here's the full size version

I use an old manual focus Nikon 600mm. It's an old surplus LA Times lens but it still works pretty good. Probably built in the 80's (not pre-80's).

I think that the green that you see is the golf course that NASA set up to give the astronauts something to do while visiting the Moon. Laughing

That's a very nice image. Yes it looks like it still works pretty good. There's so much detail that it's picked out.

I don't actually know how old this lens is, but it's probably pre-1980. Smile

Celestron C5 (1250mm f/10)
Olympus E-510 ISO 100 @ 1/125

Not great seeing tonight (and I was shooting from a San Jose backyard) so things are a little soft, but the pic above is straight out of the camera, no PP at all.
