In 1995, ColorFoto has published a list of trend-setting cameras since 1970:

1972 - Olympus OM-1 (trend: smaller SLRs, still well equipped)
1973 - Fujica ST-801 (trend: LED-viewfinder)
1976 - Olympus OM-2 (trend: intelligent exposure measurement)
1976 - Canon AE-1 (trend: electronics in a cam)
1977 - Minolta XD-7 (trend: both Av and Tv in a cam)
1982 - Nikon FM-2 (trend: 1/4000s and flash sync 1/200s)
1983 - Nikon FA (trend: P-mode and 5 exposure fields)
1984 - Canon T70 (trend: LCD-display)
1985 - Minolta 7000 (trend: first AF-SLR with complete AF-lens set)
1987 - Pentax SF-x (trend: first SLR with built-in flash)

Later:
- Minolta Dynax 7000i (predictive AF)
- Canon EOS 1000 (lightweight plastic body)
- Canon EOS 5 (eye control)
- Nikon F801 (1/8000s)
- Minolta Dynax 9xi (1/12000s)
- Canon EOS-1D (FF sensor)

What are your "trend-setters"?

The Kine Exakta - the grandfather of the whole SLR system camera concept.

Right! The Kine-Exakta was as important for SLRs as the Leica was for Findercams.

But the magazine has started in 1970... That's why they did not add this cam to the list.

EOS 300D = trend: first digital reflex camera at a consumer price

EOS 5D = first full frame digital reflex at an affordable price

@ Carsten: Ah right, I thought your question meant which camera we personally felt was a trend-setter without reference to the magazine date of 1970.

In that case, like Orio, I nominate the 5D for the same reason.

And the new EOS 1DS mkIII for possibly starting a trend for being the camera that everyone wants whether they need a machine gun frame rate or not.....

No, no, no, Bob, your statement was absolutely correct! Sorry!

I just gave a reason why the magazine did not add the Kine-Exakta.
Of course, I am interested in what you think were trend-setters!!!

Go ahead!

@ Carsten:

Don't you just love the English language..... Laughing

OK, the 1936 Kine Exakta as I mentioned before for starting the whole SLR system concept.

The EOS 5D for the same reason as Orio; affordable FF.

And as before, the EOS 1DS MkIII for being the camera that everyone will want for it's machine gun frame rate whether they actually need that feature or not.
