A few shots to stimulate some Planar thinking Wink Here is the HFT planar and a couple of it's kissing cousins. Maybe I should have spent a bit more time taking these snaps. Oh well you get the idea. The first three are to demonstrate the unique aperture shape. This has really stimulated my thoughts for interesting OOF highlights and texture.
And then a family Portrait taken with what else........ a 50mm planar Wink

CZ 1.4/85 Rollei SL f2 Aperture shape

CZ 1.4/85 Rollei SL f4 Aperture shape

CZ 1.4/85 Rollei SL f16 Aperture shape

CZ 1.4/85 Contax and Rollei SL

Zeiss "a Planar family style"

Love the family portrait, it's like the old grandfather in the middle of the two young grandchildren! Laughing

Interesting how different the barrel shape also this. The Rollei version has a curious bottleneck after the front lens/group.

Now we only need to see some samples from the newcomer! Very Happy

OK, it is "only" a Rollei Planar 1.8/50 - but it's a Planar! Wink

How do you feel it compares with the Contax version?

PostPosted: Mon Sep 08, 2008 7:32 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Nearly identical in terms of sharpness
Only a small difference in Bokeh.
Well, I say small it could be big with a harsh background.
I will post two samples in the thread that Khidhir has re: Rollei lenses
No I will make a new thread quickly
15 mins

It will be nice to see bokeh with half stopped down lens, to see the impact of the triangular shape!

This is another of the threads that passed me by when the site was crashing, so sorry I didn't comment before. I could agree more with Orio, except to say it's the Royal Family as far as cameras go.
