Goodbye Auto Focus Hello Zeiss

Well I have been drooling over Orio's contax distagon images for months, specifically 1.4/35, but using a Sony meant they were always just a dream. My only option was a new m42 Distagon.

BUT... today, while I had my daily fantasy of owning and using one of these beauties, I realised I had old AF Minolta zooms lying around gathering dust. (From before the discovery of mflenses.com)

I could never justify/afford spending 670 euro on a lens (800 - 130 VAT) but I think I can trick myself into imagining it as a lens exchange.

I reckon I can get 420 for the zooms, 120 for my flek 2.4/35, leaving just 130 euros of "real money" for a brand spanking new 2/35 zs distagon! Quite an evil plan really.

My only doubt comes from not being able to find anyone who writes about this lens with as much passion as Orio writes about the 1.4/35. Oh well, hopefully in 2-3 weeks I will have my first West German Zeiss. (Sorry if this post seems a bit pointless, Im just very excited and so far the only feedback I've gotten was from my not so excited girlfriend) Embarassed

Conor

From all the accounts it is likely to be a dream lens. Your plan seems to make terrific sense if the Minoltas would otherwise languish unused... Smile Smile Smile

hi Conor,
the 2/35 Z Distagon is often mentioned as the better lens in the new Z line.
So you just can't go wrong with it.
I don't speak about it just because, alas, I don't have it! Wink

ahh, the sweet sounds of encouragement, just what the doctor ordered... I had always assumed I would keep my af zooms but I have been disappointed with their output ever since my first mf lens arrived and it always feels like a wasted oppertunity whenever I use them. It also doesnt feel like "real" photography anymore. They just seem too easy to use.... strange.

We've all been through this... don't worry Smile
