I guess many of you know this lens well.

I got mine about a week ago (together with a Distagon 28/2.8 and a Sonnar 135/2.8 ) and finally I had some time to give it a go with some test shots.

Ok, my humble opinions:

Great tridimensionality, also wide open, and great colors.

Nice detail and bokeh most of the times, but...

...if you shot under some conditions you got the unfamous "ninja star" bokeh Crying or Very sad .

Yes, unfortunately the AE version of this lens has the ninja star blades Sad

But luckily the MM version has normal blades, so there is an alternative for those who don't want to live with it.
(I personally don't care much because I rarely shoot in a way to make them evident)

I also don't care. It's a great lens 99% of times, for that 1% I'd use another one. Considering I get this for about 120 EU I'm not complaing Very Happy

Alessandro - congrats --

PLANAR 1.4/50 ...

this lens is like a basic gear of Contax -- I think you'll be satisfied!!!

I have REALLY BAD copy -- dust inside, oil blades, the version is AE ...
but the most annoying thing -- there is a some HAIR (?) inside which appears very seldom (every 1000's pic -- lol

but I have done great pics -- I love it at all --- Smile

I think no CA is guaranteed --- perfect for big scenes as well ---

ninja bokeh -- - is noticeable but is only at stops 2, 2.8 so what? Smile

DISTAGON 2.8/28

This is reall worth of money !!! Is perfect -- with great contrast -- multipurpose lens --

CA -- very well corrected -- dark green - dark red edges -- so sometimes invisible or very easy to corretct in post...

SONNAR 135 -- huge performer -- sleeper --- worth of money.. I think no CA guaranteed

And all of these are PERFECT with flash or studio light!!!

tf

Great images! I DO see the dimensionality, Alessandro.

Frankly, I think you could make ANY lens sing! Cool

I suppose this lens would not fit on say....a G2? I think that only G2 lenses would fit.

I LOVE to see your images.

Congrats Allesandro You are 3 steps closer to the Contaxian club Laughing

I agree with Larry. We could hand you a piece of black paper with a whole in it and you could make a Beauty capture with it!

@ Larry
There is an adapter for the G2 but, you don't need it with the G planar 2/45 Wink

Yes Larry, there is the adapter to fit some Contax lenses onto the G2, but it costs more than a couple of used G lenses Laughing and you will lose the main benefit of the G2, that is, the fact that I can fit the camera, 5 lenses, the flash, batteries, hoods, 21mm viewfinder, and a couple film rolls inside a 25x18 cm bag Smile

Thanks F16 and Orio, for assuaging my curiosity.

The Contax G2 is looking good in my mind.

Alessandro - any more pictures? I love seeing your work.
