I just bought this dSLR, price is 252,000 Yen including sales tax.
It is just under US$2,500 for a new one. The store I bought the camera
only accepts CASH, no plastic, no nothing.

Will put up some photos in Jpeg later, I am charging a battery now.

@Tokyo

Yes!
Congratulations Koji Very Happy
So tell us. Which lenses did you bring along to test the new camera?
Or will you be tempted with a new Zeiss ZF while in Tokyo Wink

Thanks for CANON 5DmkII, the price of D700 went down
a couple of hundred dollars.

Yes, I bought Planar T* 85/1.4. I am not going to use it often,
but I have to have one. hehe
This was at the third camera store today, at the second store
I asked them to modify those G-lenses to M-mount.

I almost bought Zeiss 21/4.5ZM, but didn't. I am converting
G-Biogon 21mm to M-mount now, so my brain said "no".
But my heart ached...... Rolling Eyes

I saw new Zeiss 18mm F3.5, its price tag says 16,000 Yen.
But I rather want 18/4ZM and Distagon 21/2.8ZF though. Very Happy
(My inner mind see I will collect all those new Zeiss ZF lenses.)

@Andy
I brought Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 ZF, which is a super lens,
will put up some test shot in Jpeg soon. Be patient please.

Congratulations! I have never seen a cam that produces pictures as great as the D700. Well, I have not tried the D3. Wink

ISO 3200 is at least as good as ISO 800 of my EOS 40D!!!

I've been so concentrated on film cameras, that I didn't even know there was a D700 until reading this! I guess I'm out of touch! Very Happy

It sure has a lot of attributes that would make it a great digital camera.

I am anxious to see results.

Here is some shots from the last night>

@f5.6, ISO 400

@f8, ISO400

In side of commuter train car, 7p.m. ISO was 400, though I used
Auto ISO rage, AE-mode, picture style = standard, D-lighting, etc.
(I later found that my AUTO ISO setting did not work, was my mistake.)

Congrats on your purchases Koji.
The D700 looks like a terrific camera.
Of course a Distagon on it (and what Distagon!) does not hurt Wink

This is shot today, @f2 + ISO400. It is hard to focus 85mm lens.

Daughter of my niece who married to a spanish fellow, this is the first
time I saw them. I should have used F2.8 to have more depth, and
some more mistakes I made. I am not handling a tele-photo lens well.
(The lens is Planar 85mm F1.4, first time in my life to use it.)

What a cute kid! Very Happy
Sweet lens Koji but, uh oh you went past 60mm this time.
I know how you feel with longer lenses.
For me 85mm is my longest "comfortable" FL.
Maybe this lens will change you also
Cool
