I've just picked up a used Nikon D50 to go with my D700. It'll probably get some use a travel camera but my main aim is to have a play with IR.
Despite the tiny LCD and tiny viewfinder I rather like it - I looked at the D40, but that was just too small, the D50 is compact but handles pretty well. Image quality at 200 is pretty good - pixel peeping it doesn't stand up to the D700, but it's not bad at all and A4 prints are difficult to tell apart under average conditions.

Congrats Richard!
Will you have the IR filter removed and replace or simply use filters?
I looked into modifying a Coolpix8400 with Lifepixel.com .
They are near to my home and have a great reputation.
Check them out even just for the curiosity.

Cheers
Andy

Initially I'll just use filters. If I get into it I'll probably get a camera with a larger sensor and get that converted. The D50 provides a cheap try and see how it goes option.

Congratulations, a whole new Nikon DSRL setup!
Now you need a ZF lens to mount on them Wink

Congrats Richard!

I am more than a bit of interest into IR photography now, but
have not done any experiment yet.

So tell us the result of IR filter with D50 please.

By the way ZF lens collection will be a rich hobby, be warned. Very Happy
