Finally came in!

The built is excellent for a 40 year old lens, and it's good to use wide open, but then again, i have to use it more to decide if it's really a good lens.

Samples shot wide open!

My father bought to me a nikkormat ftn in 1971, with the nikkor 1,4.

Supersharp, contrast, nice colors. The last 1,4, is better than the old ?

I think I actually prefer some of these old Nikkors over some of the newer equivalents. Possibly due to the single coating some have and residual spherical abberations these have nice areas of light and soft OOF areas.

I believe the optics have remained the same essentially but the mountings have been plasticised and the coatings have become more technological. I have an AI that seems to me to be at least as good as the newer versions. This is for nikkor as for many other makers quite a showpiece.

I (not my father Very Happy) actually bought this lens Nikkor-S・C Auot 50/1.4 slightly
newer version (newer coating) in 1974. Newer Ai50/1.4S is slightly better at wide
open IMO, I was surprised at the first time to know each lens is different around 1986.
So my journey started for a better or different lens, it has not ended yet. Laughing

Thanks everybody.

I asked about nikon (in leica too specially about the first version of summicron M 35 and 50 mm) because with canon lenses it seems to me that is just on the contrary, L lenses are better than oldies.

I am not sure... FD/FL lenses are superb one... Canon L lenses are great for telephoto and wide are so expensive, I cant even think of touching...

The problem is, its almost impossible to mount FD/FL lenses on any 1.5x or full frame DSLRs....

Plus, you have to accept the fact that most of the modern lenses have few strengths... but do we care about those... Once one L lens owner told me his philosophy of moving to L lineup, although he used to be Nikon fan... L lenses provides the best results with in-camera processing.. if you dont want to do any processing and wants to capture lot of JPEGs.. go for L... Contrasty, saturated and sharp... and that what mass market is looking..
