I just bought this lens. Hopefully I can adapt it to use on the R d1.
Of course it will be used on the Film RF as well. I suppose it will be same
quality as the reflex version. This one is an Opton so built right after the war
correct?? Any opinions or thoughts? The 2/50 sonnar will find a home with another

I will ask a woman friend in the camera club. Interestingly she is one of only two females in the club, and she is a Zeiss 'afficionado' of sorts. I'm almost certain she showed this same lens a couple of years ago, and she had adapted it to a different mount (Pentax I think?) at the time.

Stay tuned, maybe I can find some information. Cool

p.s. - Hey! It's a SONNAR for crying out loud! Shocked

The lens arrived today.
I'm happy to report it is in mint condition.
The blades are completely dry and clean. Coatings and glass perfect. And both rings move smooth and freely. Very Happy
This is all most unexpected from such an old piece. Here are a couple snaps. The other lens on the camera is a Opton 1.5/50 Sonnar. You can see the difference in the blades.
The 4/135 has a 12 blade system that makes a round iris all the way thru the f stops.
The 1.5/50 has the 11 blade star iris. The iris is star shaped until f11 then going mostly round.
I hope to have some sample to show in the next week or so. Typical (excellent) sonnar performance can be expected I would guess.

Thanks Atilla and Orio
Orio good to see you here. You must be very busy with work.
I on the other hand have been unable to work for a while now.
I'm stuck at home with a bad back and head full of Vicodin Mad
It keeps me on the forum more often although not very sharp.
At least the postman can deliver some nice lenses like this one.

I tried the lens today on the 40D
Being a RF lens I just held it up to the mount flange for a couple shots.
This lens has beautiful Bokeh and I think is a first class example of the Carl Zeiss Opton era.
The wind is blowing today so you can see a bit of motion in the shots especially with the double hand-held method. No PP other than Convert from Raw.
Please let me know what you think Smile

Open at f/4
