It seems that here in Romania there are no more labs that develop 120 ... as far as I know .they hardly do 135 .If someone has a different info , please let me know. So I decided to spot labs in Europe where I could sent my 120 rolls for developing .How is the situation in your area? Comments from outside EU are also welcomed , it's great to have a global approach Laughing

Poor, very poor service here in the middle of Germany; a rural area, though.

Do it your self not difficult really.

I take all my 120/35mm color film to Walmart. Their outlab is Fuji and they do a remarkable job every time. I mark "DEV ONLY" in the special instructions box. It only costs $0.84.

B&W I do myself. I bet I spend more money doing that. Confused

In Italy there are some labs develop 120/220 films but pricesare so high...
If I remember well, itint could be develop service of Ilford in UK but I don't know how good.

Seems I found in Bucharest a lab .Must contact them . Not cheap ,4,5 E a 120 roll on their advertising . Is it much cheaper doing it yourself , Attila?

Surely , cost is depend from developer. I use Fomapan film 2 EUR / roll , developing cost is 50 cents per roll with fomadon developers.

i think there is some confusion and mixing prices of colour and B&W processes. to make it clear:

homemade kit for C41 is around 75€/60films or 18€/12films
homemade kit for E6 is around 85€/60films or 35€/12films
home developing of B&W is from 0,10€/film if you mix your own chemicals

in labs in my country - ussual price for developing:
C41 colour negative film135/120: 3€
E6 slide film135/120: 5,5€

Developing film here is very cheap.
Many supermarkets and drugstores here are receiving offices for CEWE, a German megalab; They devlope 120 film for the same price as 135 film as far as I know.
From my local drugstore think it costs 0,99€ per 120 C41 roll and 2€ for B/W. Don't know how much for E6. Prints are very expensive.

Quality for C41 and E6 is good. B/W quality depends on film.

Do B/W developments always @ home! It's cheap, fast, easy and depending on film even better.

Thanks for starting this thread. In this part of planet Lahore-Pakistan developing is done by few labs at rupees 45/- (half dollar per roll). Few shops have 135 and 120/220 is not available. As and when it is available mostly expired film and expensive.

As I have done since 1980, I develop all my own black and white. Why? Beacuse I do better quality custom development than any lab. The bonus is that it's cheap.

I am lucky to live about five blocks from an old photo store who run E-6 and C-41. $5.75 USD for 120 E-6, 2.75 for 120 and $4.15 for 220 C-41.

Here almost every lab that does 135 does 120 as well (C41) and is not much more expensive. I pay 1.15€ per roll at a small local lab. DM is probably even cheaper but I never even checked. The only thing is that if I bring the film on monday, they usually say it will be ready on thursday or something similar. Developing B&W is a different matter though. Only a few labs do it and it's expensive (like 6€ or 8€ per roll). That's the reason why I started to develop B&W film myself.

Labs here process everything, the main problem is time. For a 135 slides roll, it's common to wait 4-5 days.
For a 120 roll (colour neg or slide), 7 to 10 days wait.
The only fast is 135 colour negative, you can often have it processed the same day.
As for B&W, I develop it myself it's 4 years now, all formats.

Canada.
Here we are fortunate. I know of at least four labs in Vancouver, BC that process film of all sorta. Three of them for sure offer same day service and prices are reasonable. You can even get sheet film done with drop off in the morning pick up in the afternoon, drop off early afternoon pick it up before 6:00 PM closing.

used to get E6 35 for a buck (development only, comes back in about 7x6images plastic sleeve) at local Saturn
they took more like 2.50 and unpredictable pricing for e6 120
(and e6 35 Ektachrome slide copy
since for some reason they processed that one manually :<)

sent some to eurocolor gera, fine service,
but their bags (35/120 one each) just went up to something like 4 bucks or more! (from ~2)
and the included return postage is only covering Germany I suppose)

BW is right out, cant pay for this at a lab
and it will never be what you want

I just dropped two rolls of 220 off at Action Photo in Concord (and four rolls of 120) today. Their price for 200 was, understandably, twice 120. Actually, the guy had to look up the price that's how long it's been since they developed 220.

I use them OFTEN and they're truly great.

Um since we are at it

The test film from Eurocolor (Agfachrome 50 120) came back nice
One frame was dark but that was probably user error, or less probable,
some hiccup of the kiev88

But I sort of tuned the film to start earlier and shot in the failing evening light until I was sure the light was hitting paper

This didn't work out so well - I got onlly 12 or 12.5 6x6 frames,
including the dark one

Is this a common in your face quirk of eurocolor gera processing?
Or can a man simply not be cheap with 120?

With 35 I usually got 37 or 37.5 and I heard of people with manual film
injection that they get 39 or 40 - I suppose this takes some practice though

Reply

A roll of 120 film can hold 12 6x6cm frames and no more. On 135 though I regularly get between 37 and 39 if frame spacing is correct.

Here in Houston, the 4th largest city in the US, with a Greater Houston Area population of well over 4 million people, there is only one lab left that does 120. It is a Pro lab and it also does E6 in 35mm and medium format. Turn around time is hours. They have film runs at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. They seem to be staying moderately busy. But their prices are fairly high. You're paying for promptness and for Pro quality. Here's their website:

http://www.azphoto.com/

Some of their prices:

35mm E6 is $10.10 per roll unmounted, 11.25 mounted; C41 negs, sleeved, $7.15, B&W negs, sleeved, $8.20

120 E6 is $10.25 (sleeved only), C41 negs, sleeved $6.65, B&W negs, sleeved, $7.85.

220 E6 is $17.65 (sleeved only), C41 negs, sleeved $11.75, B&W negs, sleeved, $12.40

4x5 E6 is $3.00, C41 negs, $3.00, B&W negs, $3.25

These folks also do a lot of different sorts of film scanning too.

My local Costco still does 35mm film developing, and I'll take my C-41 to them to have negs developed only. Cost is less than $3.00. They do a good job, too.

Because of the high price of slide film and the high price to develop it -- roughly $20 a roll now -- I have started developing my own E6 using kits I get from Freestyle here in the US. The results have been quite good. The most important variable is bath temperature. Using a small Styrofoam cooler, like one meant to hold a six-pack, works well for keeping the bath temp stable.

I feel that it is only a matter of time before I won't be able to get C41 processed conveniently, so I recently bought a Unicolor C41 kit, and I'm gonna give it a go as well. I've already been developing my own B&W for many years, so it's really just a matter of expanding my technique somewhat so I can add color to it.

You folks in Europe have access to some kits that we can't get here, I believe. Freestyle stocks Tetenal, from Germany, in C41 and E6, and Rollei, also from Germany I'm assuming, in C41 only. Freestyle also stocks chemicals from Arista and Unicolor. I believe Arista is a house brand and Unicolor is a US brand as well.

Seems I'm really lucky in Eastern Poland Smile
I can develop any C41 in like 30 minutes (I'm really good with guys from photo lab), doesn't matter if that's 135 or 120/220. They develop anything. It costs about $1.

I used to wait for E-6 for a week (it was sent to a one place in Poland), but recently I've found a place in my city, where they develop it on demand. Didn't test it yet, but quite a nice surprise to try out Smile

[EDIT]
I wrote that too soon.
Yesterday I wanted to develop my first roll from Horizon and it turned out they closed that E-6/C-41 place. Now they do digital only Sad
I'll see on Monday how about the other C41 place I knew.

Few months back I arranged few roll of 120 Ektar 100 from abroad. I exposed one roll recently but unfortunately no one is developing here in Lahore-Pakistan. Now lying in refrigerator.

I guess, the excellent Photo Studio 13 lab at Stuttgart can help and mail it worldwide!

I do all my own B&W 120 and 220 processing -- I have many different developers and many chemicals to make them up from the Formulae -- on another Forum I offered to develop only B&W 120, 220 and 35mm for £ 1-50 a roll ( NO VAT) and I got a few BUT was messed about so much -- then they wanted 'scans' on discs which I don't know how to to do so I have largely given up helping anyone.
