Viewfinder distance from eye to focus screen?

Suppose the viewfinder shows a 1:1 image of the focus screen. What is the viewing distance to the focus screen?

With that, the angle of view can be calculated.

With that angle of view calculated, the viewing distance, for any size print, to reproduce the depth-of-field exactly as shown in the viewfinder, can be calculated.

My intuition tells me the angle of view in degrees is the length of the focus screen diagonal in mm, i.e., the same number. Is that correct? Does 1:1 magnification "make that so" somehow?

If correct, the viewfinder dof is reproduced exactly on an 8x12" print viewed 14.4" away. Viewed farther away, apparent dof increases; viewed closer, apparent dof decreases.

If that isn't enough, when the size and viewing distance are known, the number of stops difference between composition aperture and taking aperture can be calculated to make the difference in dof on the print to compensate for change in viewing distance from exactly diagonal length.

For example, 8x12" will be viewed 28.8" away; to show dof in the viewfinder at f/8, the photo needs to be taken at f/8 - f/x (f/4 I'm guessing)...see where this is going? This stuff is argued all the time; it's well misunderstood imho; some formulae and tables would help with that.
