No wet mounting, but I'm waiting for a glass from betterscanning to help me to keep the film flat in the holder.

The image is unsharp primarily, I suspect, because of the lens. The use of filters will inevitably have caused further softening.
Whether you like it or hate it is entirely up to you, of course, but I suspect it is Velvia film you are liking or hating, rather than the processing.
I also think that rather than the foreground being bright and the background dark in the original scene, the opposite was the case, so a "natural" photo would have a dark foreground and blown out skies.
