I'm all smiles Laughing as I just picked up a highly desirable Adapt-A-Matic Pentax II adapter in an uncontested auction:

This is the most recent version of m42 adapter for this line of lenses. This baby will really come in handy in future when circumstances dictate purchase of a wanted Adapt-A-Matic lens with an unwanted adapter . . or with no adapter at all.

Seller also threw in a lens (for me a duplicate) and a filter. If it's the original Tamron filter (not sure) that also would be a plus. But regardless, I'm really pleased so easily to have acquired this adapter. It's a happier world when nobody else bids!! Very Happy

That is a great buy and great price for this lens and adapter. I hope the lens/glass is in good condition.

Thanks, Mo. Yes, there's always the chance the lens will be OK, and that would be nice. But right now I'm just so pleased to have won that m42 adapter. Those things are not "growing on trees"!

I'm not certain how many forum members are aware these Adapt-A-Matics were sold new by Tamron with an included Tamron-branded filter especially designed for this lens. I own only one such filter with the genuine Tamron brand. The lenses were sold new, of course, without any adapter at all, the adapters having been sold separately.

I was surprised, when researching these Adapt-A-Matics in my old Modern Photography magazines (on microfiche), how really inexpensive they seemed. Many sold new for well less than US$100!!! However something costing US$80 in 1970 would today cost almost US$500 owing to inflation

I guess taking that into account it makes more sense. They surely are beautifully made lenses, though . . . . darn near works of art!!!

(Course without the right adapter the Adapt-A-Matic lenses are much less useful! Wink )

This I did not know,are you sure its just not a normal filter for all Tamron lenses?

Mo there are surely other forum members better equipped to address this than myself. I'm working strictly from memory, but:

I recall the Adapt-A-Matic lens series possesses certain rather unusual optical properties. "Unusual" in this instance does not mean "better" or "worse". It just means different from the run of the mill. My best understanding is that the Tamron-branded filters were designed properly to accommodate the eccentricities of the Adapt-A-Matic series. I know these filters exist because, as I wrote earlier, I own a single example. Also, I read about the filters in the old Modern Photography magazines, publication of which came at a time contemporaneous to manufacture of the lenses.

I'm hoping the lens I just bought might still have its original Tamron filter. However, that's a "big ask" and I'll be completely content just to receive the adapter for which I bought the lens in the first place.

It's something worth noting so many thanks for mentioning it..I understand completely about remembering from memory, and realize our memories may be faulty....sometimes they steer us in the right direction. Very Happy

I agree the adapter alone is worth the $8 + postage Cool

Adapter arrived in the mail today. It is perfect, even having the original Tamron screw-on cap! Am very pleased.

[The lens and case also are in very, very good shape. The filter DID turn out to be the original Tamron filter but sadly, over so many years, it appears to have suffered a bit of separation along the way]

All in all, though, a great buy. I was fortunate.
