There were plenty, and I mean PLENTY of decent cameras about! Nearly everyone had a Canon with a huge L series zoom lens attached (not sure why) 
The works depot was opened right up, and trains from the last goodness knows how many years stood proud, from the steam trains of the 40s to the recently decommissioned slam door and Wessex Electric models.
Unfortunately the light wasn't brilliant and it was VERY busy, but I still managed to get a number of shots in. I was keen to try the SP 28-80 as I've never taken it out before, but heard some great reviews.
There are 25 shots below, all pretty basic shots and I don't expect you to look at them all, but there may be some train geeks here who are interested
A real old traction engine
Some more modern Virgin carriages hidden behind...
I used to get one of these to work, very comfortable. And they replaced them with horrible new ones 
An old slam door model, looking a bit tired!
Oops, this is a sneaky Pentacon 135 jobba!!
Still had the Pentacon on here...
And here! Sorry! Love the bokeh monster!
OK, last one with the Pentacon 
The No. 93 was my local stopper train as a lad
Not technically a photo of trains, but you can see one in the bumper 
Inside the depot...
Scary bokeh!
I found the SP 28-80 very sharp at f5.6 and above, producing some crisp images. I found it far, far too soft at f3.5 and f4 though.

In the future I' ll try to use most the time mf lenses. Shooting in the depots with mf is no problem at all.

The show is actually on until Monday...might be worth a visit? There are special night shoot visits as well for us camera geeks, with the trains running up and down (20:45 - 23:30) but it costs £35.00 for entry! Normal daytime entry is £14.00.

24mm is enough.
Don't ban people from your frames.
Actually the frame preferences of railifans [from the beginner to the experienced one] are:
1. Only and strictly the train
2. Train + landscape
3. Train + human presence.
4. Special macro - train photography.
Off cource mature rail photographers do all of the above.
If you deside to be one of us, at your service sir...!!!!!!

I cropped most of them out, but these beards are getting longer and curlier...it was quite a challenge!
