People looking always MINT lenses even for usage not for collection and they rare think about why a lens survive 50 years without usage.

Theres is some obvious answer.

1) Lens was very expensive, owner used only with care sometimes.
2) Lens was a lemon copy with bad IQ people sold to each other many times, nobody used more than one times.
3) Came from an old stock , good lens but wasn't used.

Any of them possible.

Hi Yalcin,

Is this a problem? I haven't seen a haze before Smile What is the effect of it?

Someone said that a picture is worth one thousand words ...

CZJ Flektogon 35/2.8 (alu finish) with haze, before cleaning:

As it should have been:

If you are lucky (as i was), the haze is probably coming from cigarette smoke (or the like), and it will be quite easy to clean (provided that you will be able to disassemble the lens) with a few drops of Zippo fluid ...

Hope this helps

Best regards

Of the hazy lenses that I've attempted to clean(and have been able to get to those lens elements), I'd say that less that half have been cleanable.

On the whole, I'd say if there was a choice between a lens with fungus and a lens with haze, I'd choose the one with fungus. I've been able to clean maybe 90% of fungus from lenses without any obvious signs of any damage afterwards.

The difficult hazey lens elements to clean seem to be the low dispersion elements.

Here is the lens I received a few days ago. Looking through it with normal light, I can see nothing. Using a flashlight, this is the view I see:

The lens is a Pentax SMC M 50 f/1.7 valued at $50. Should I send it back? Request some money back? Keep it as is? Please help Confused

This is not really haze , rather than a bit more dust than usual. I think this is not impact anything. Haze is covered fully part of lens, allow to throw less light than this,

Thanks for the reply Attila. When I looked through it the first time I went Shocked I am worried most about reduced contrast and extra flare. The sun is not out so testing would be difficult at the moment.

Would there be a reduction of value of this lens? Should I request any money back? Or just get to using it? Laughing

Then again...the lens I used to take this pic is infested with a couple sections of fungus and plenty of dust. I use it without hesitation and have made 16x20" prints with it. So maybe I'm being a hypochondriac about the M50? Laughing

It reduce lens value but not much, if lens is rare it not reduce anything.

I have many old lenses with this amount of dust they are perform well.

Dust is easy to clean if it is necesary, of course.

Dust is one thing totally different to haze (and to a fungus too).

Lens with dust can be a bargain. I buy a good lens with dust without any hesitation.

Thanks for all the help Smile

I believe these are easy to take apart from the front, and this layer should be right near the front. I just might try to see what happens. I stripped an A 50/2 to the bone, repaired the focus and aperture ring and got it together and it focused to infinity...my first lens repair Very Happy
