@DSG: It sounds like you still haven't looked at Toothwalker's page. The illustration makes clear that the solid angle that a camera lens captures is a pyramid, not a cone (not circular). This is the crux of the matter. It's impossible to cover the complete pyramidal solid angle with a circular hood without cutting the corners, so gaps will be left. It's basically as simple as trying to fit a square block into a circular whole, just like the play of toddlers with their toys. Razz
