This is a fine lens. Difficult to find a good copy. The build quality is inferior to the metal/glass earlier adaptalls. The macro mode is excellent: mfd = 0,9m.

Nice shot.

I've been trying with the soon to open apple blossoms here, and the wind certainly isn't cooperating.

I have the "parent" 103-A here, and from what I've read, the optical constructions are quite similar.
If that is the case, you have a very good lens in your hands, not only for macro, but for clear shots at a considerable distance.

According to Modern Photography measures on Adaptall-2 website the 46A has better sharpness figures than 103A. But as a general comment the author prefers the 103A and on Pentax forums both lenses are well appreciated. Tell us your remarks about the 103A. True the quality and the haptics are certainly better on 103A than on 46A and if performance is similar I would look for one.

Found a Diagram for the 46A. It is largely the same as the 103A without an element in the rear.

103-A in macro at 210mm and wide open.
Cropped image is un-manipulated here.
There is no adapter used here. It is nikon f mount lens to nikon camera - the f/l is as originally made.

Will have to search a bit for a distance shot.

The most notable distinction between these lenses for me is the rendering: 03A is very "cool", 103A is warm and 46A has the most true colours. All 3 can fringe, 46A is probably the best in that regard. Interestingly, 46A has some the highest ratings for resolution on adaptall-2.com. I found little difference in sharpness between 46A and the kiron 70-210mm f4 "zoomlock", but the kiron has even better rendering than 46A.

About 350m distant here with the 103-A wide open yet again.
Image is a considerable crop, and un-manipulated.
Other than some slightly low contrast, little wrong here.

If these are unsharpened 100% crops it sure is a sharp lens.

The dandelion head is at about 50%, and the flags image is roughly 85%- fine performance for a 3rd party lens.
Both are at ISO 400.

I just recently picked up another (quite a bit older) Tamron zoom in beater condition.
I am rapidly becoming a fan of this maker.
