This lens has some nasty scratches on the front element but I like what I'm getting from it. This is the 58mm front thread version. First shot is wide open next two at f/11 and last at f/4. What do you think ?

Looks good to me. No.3 is a great shot, the colours and textures just work for me. Am I correct in thinking it is a tractor tyre?

I think that you are asking about the lens quality.

Well, superb lens.

The scratches are not the reason of bad rendering, while they don't been very deep and at the center.

More pics, please.

I was walking around my house looking for shots. Yes it's the tire on my tractor

This is a fine lens.
The scratches have shown no effects that I can see on the finished images.
Many thanks for sharing this

This thread merely bolsters what I've learned in the last six months regarding the unimportance of lens scratches . . even bad ones.

It's so counterintuitive though . . . . dismissing scratches, I mean. Still, in an information theoretic sense, lenses appear to have abundant redundancy. If only the same were true of women. Can you imagine a world where every woman, regardless any flaws, nevertheless was beautiful!?

Uh, oh. I think I just stepped in it! Embarassed Wink

Scratches on the rear element seem to have bigger impacts on IQ, the lens will be easier to cause flare.
The best example Ive seen is this:

I missed out on a smoking good deal, like <$30 for a mint S-M-C version as I was buying 2 other lenses (S-M-C 100/2.8 & 55/1.8 I think), but I wasn't really looking for that Lens yet, now its the only lens I'm wanting for my set. Hope to see more from it.

As you know, can paint black the scratches.

It should help to avoid flare.

Hell, looking at the state of the lens I'd have binned it! But wow, super sharp pix.

I have painted a couple of scratches out in black paint. These are on the rear of the lens. No problems after painting.

Absolutely beautiful samples.
Even scratched the lens is still nice for picture taking.

good samples, looks like a very good lens.
So far I have not been able to make out any negative impact of a scratched lens

Had to add just one more pic from this lens. My pup Nyla is a 10 year old lab that still must have a toy to carry and play with and she gets excited and rolls on her back like a puppy when I get home. Saw Picachu sitting there and wanted to get a few shots and had time to get just this one with Nyla rolling through ! Technically I missed focus by a stuffed animal hair but what the heck ! Shot @ 2.8.
