Fresh samples from yesterday with my latest buy. It has those beautiful Makinon coatings, which is about what good things this copy has going for it. It also has a good macro mode to be fair, and with 100% working copy it can be a nice lens. Mine has a strange issue that puts the whole image slightly out of focus when zooming out, and with a small zoom-in, every thing is back to normal. Most noticeable on the infinity setting, which can’t be reached when zooming out to 35mm. My m42 adapter usually goes beyond infinity on my other lenses, I might need to tighten a few screws.
35mm f/11 Ängskovall
35mm f/11 Ängsklocka
105mm f/3.5
40mm, Panorama 18 images.
35mm f/8 web, flare.

Nice images! Did you try the third ring - macro ring? If turned you get different infinity position naturally. Some models need to have a special pin pressed to enable ring to turn. _________________ ---------------------------------

Thanks! Yes I've tried to fiddle with the macro ring with no success (except when taking the flower pics ) . The whole construction feels a bit loose/ too much play between the parts. It has a small scrape on the filter ring, but it's too small to have caused any damage in a fall. But if it hit the ground camera first, that may explain things. |

Great job with this lens. Your samples are excellent. I recently picked up a Makinon 80-200 3.5. Besides the Macro mode which is very good, it's one of the worst 80-200ish MF lenses I have ever used. _________________ ________________________________________________________

Much appreciated! I also picked up the same lens after hearing good things about it. But it was for FD mount so I could not test it on my 40D at infinity. Very close macro indeed, other than that it looked kind of low contrast and not the best sharpness. The only thing worse in my cabinet is a Soligor 70-222 3.5.
To answer memetph, the Minolta MD zoom 70-210 f/4 is one of the good ones. |

I have so many I'm not sure what the best one is. For MF, probably either the Tokina AT-X or the Tamron 80-200 2.8. I just couldn't get sharp photos out of the Makinon in non macro mode. I would say it's sample variation or some flaw in my copy, but then again Makinon doesn't have the greatest reputation for sharpness. _________________ ________________________________________________________
