or use the "white point" setting in the WB software? That really is a serious cast. I had a similar problem with my Helios 40 and a couple of weeks of UV seems to have largely fixed it.

To clarify - I typically don't use AWB because I don't like the assumptions it makes, and its unpredictable. (This is well explained here).

However, to date my lenses have been very neutral. The Nikkors are slightly cool and the Ultron is just slightly warm, but nothing major. This means I can set the colour temperature in post.

I just took a test shot with custom (measured) white balance, measured from a sheet of white premium inkjet paper in direct sunlight (f/5.6 1/800):

The weather is similar to yesterday (a bit brighter) and its a similar time of day so the photos should be comparable.

This really surprises me. First I do not remember that from my Telear and second did you shoot with AWB setting? Then the DSLR should not allow such a colour cast. Shocked Question

They were all shot with 'sunny' awb. I should probably get one of those semi-transparent white lenscaps and do the custom white balance thing.

Ah, OK, I see. In this case such a strong colour cast is more realistic. Some lenses do produce very warm pictures. Shooting with the same WB setting helps to characterize the lenses' characters. That makes sense.
Measuring the right WB of course helps, but I also have very good experiences with the AWB of my Canon cams, if I want a neutral effect. It mostly avoids such a strong cast. So, if you aim for a deliberate colour effect, it's no good. Wink
