Hi all,

Just got a Taylor-Hobson Ental II 4 1/4 inch. f/4.5 enlarger lens, which seems to have a kind of M37 Embarassed thread mount.

Do you think a "common" M37 to M39 (or M37 to M42) adapter ring could fit ?
I'm asking because i have found some sites reporting the lens with a 37.4mm, while others says it has a 37mm thread ...

Cheers

ENTAL Type II is a pretty good lens actually , but has a tendence to get lens browning. Guess it is some non-metric thread mount since it is an older lens .... never tried to mount mine though, still sitting in their boxes somewhere.

Right, Klaus Embarassed ... Now, if only i knew how to update the title of the thread ...

The thread looks very similar to the one of my Elmar 90/4, so i guess an M37 adapter should fit, thanks to the tolerances of the builds ...

Well, I also always struggle with these very strange mountings threads - there are just TOO MANY different ones and to always have one made ist just way too expensive!! But sometimes there is no other way.

(better now?)

I think TTH must have used different threads at different times - I'm sure I had a 2-inch one with the normal Leica thread. Maybe yours is the 1.5 inch size (was it 1 1/2 inch focal length x 24 threads per inch?). I'm sure there must be a listing of such sizes somewhere, searching it out will be fun!

For most of their time they were a lens manufacturer without any exclusive ties to one camera maker. And even today you can order screw mount lenses from the remaining independents with any pitch, thread and register depth you want.

At the time TTH/RTH used the British RPS series of screw threads, which is not only in imperial sizes but the thread angle is not "M", as in ISO/DIN standards. I no longer have my files on TTH/RTH but I think Cooke Optics, as the lens department has become, should have the information required.

Unfortunately there is not that much there. The Lens Vademecum has most of it listed.

The contact for historical info would be Mrs Barbara Lowry barb@cookeoptics.com
