I found a copy of this lens and will take it even though I'm not so ZOOMY as you know

What is a good price to pay?
I think I have heard some raves here for this lens is it a good one?

It comes with a Tamron SP Flat Field Teleconverter
Does anyone know what that is? Is it special or good?

Thanks for replies

Confused

You don't need, you have so many excellent lenses, sure it will not surprise you. In user price guide you can find plenty of entries.

A cheap lens I bought around 50-60 USD or less. One of the best zoom in low price range. For beginners more than wonderful lens, but not for you.

I'm watching Adaptall-2 SPs and the one that I've been watching has ended with 7 bids, 42 USD, good price for a SP Adaptall. I hope this helps a bit.

Sorry Embarassed
I should have mentioned
This one is for my Nieces camera kit
She is very interested in Photography
So I am getting an OM1 from Mike for her
This will be her other lens with a 1/.8/50
I just wondered about it from some experiences of others.

The price was about $40 including mount and this odd TC all is like new with cases and boxes

She will love it, TC is not unusable, lens is very good. Price was a good deal.

It is the very lens I bought for my OM back in '85, and my daughter's been using it (as have I) of late. It and the Zuiko 50/1.8 sufficed for till our eldest was in high school, late 90s, when I bought an 85/2 to shoot her school performances with.

Really very sharp and good definition, can lose contrast though. Better than many modern auto focus zooms. And the OM adaptall mount is one of their better working ones too. Although I have 'better' lenses I wouldn't part with mine, it has not only sentimental value to me... it's a damn good zoom.

Apart from the contrast thing, there's a bit of distortion at 35mm, which I happen to like.

I think it is perfect for your niece!

Ps. Attila, why do you say the tc is unusable? True, it gets CA with a long zoom... but it's pretty decent. Not that I'd use one with this lens.

Here's a pbase of some informal testing vs. a couple of other lenses...

I hate them Smile All of them , they take out two f stop and degrade image quality. MF lenses are dirt cheap better to buy a double focal length lens than use TC.

Andy, the SP35-80 is by far the best of my 4 Tamrons. It's a little prone to flare so look for the dedicated clamp-on rubber hood (ref 25F). At 35mm it has a fair bit of barrel distortion but I think the colour and sharpness more than make up for that. And I must get into the habit of setting the zoom last - I often nudge the zoom ring when I'm setting the aperture.

That lens is one that I like as well - Larry passed along a copy to me.

From what I remember he likes his as well, the one I got was a spare.

Damn! Those swim! excellent photos, yes the macro is very good indeed

(I didn't REALLY need the SP 90 but it sort of fell to me very cheap...)

For macro works you need the SP 90. Wink

The SP 35-80mm F/2.8-3.8 is a very competent macro lens with great resolution. As standard it does 1:2.5 and is very usable with tubes.

To quote the adaptall-2.com site
‘Macro performance across the central two thirds of the film plane stands up very well against dedicated macro lenses. Amazingly, this lens yields very good macro performance across the entire film plane when used with Tamron's SP 2X tele-converter.‘
http://www.adaptall-2.com/lenses/01A.html
You can also check out the (Independent) resolution test figures and compare them to the SP 90mm Macro.
I have 2 of these lenses the first I bought new and almost wore it out.

There is not "the" 90/2,5, there are two versions and there is the 90/2.8. Which one is yours?

Mine's the 52BB with the 55mm thread. I have the hood (a really nice one, that) and the flat field 2x. Really nice lens, very versatile and well behaved.

I've had the 35-80 since new also, '85, on my third/fourth adapter for it. For a zoom, it really has some good resolution. As seen in those awesome macros...
