Finally got a chance to take my newly acquired Tamron SP 28-135mm model 28A out for a spin. All shots are done at F/8 in the 28mm (wide) end in Macro mode. Macro ratio is 1:4 at this setting. I find the performance more than adequate and all pictures had excellent details. Images were captured in RAW and processed in lightroom. I boosted contrast and saturation slightly as per my normal post procedure. Some of the high contrast shots displayed some CA which was corrected in camera RAW. Camera is a Canon 550D (T2i).

Some nice pics here. I think this is a very capable lens. Quite good even at the wide end, to my experience better than the 28-80mm SP lens. It covers a good range, so it makes a nice travel lens. Color rendition is excellent. Plus the addition of the macro function is quite a nice bonus. A fairly underrated zoom lens in my opinion. |

A 28-135 is a highly useful lens. I got a Tokina AT-X 4-4.6/28-135 some days ago. It's not as good as the Tamron but it also not bad at all and much cheaper. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Thanks for the comments
Among the Tamron SP adaptall line, this lens doesn't show up as often as the 28-80. Between 35-80, 28-80 and 28-135, 35-80 is the sharpest with easiest operational characteristics. Like the previous commenter observed, 28-135 is quit underrated and produces very nice results. IMHO, it is definitely better than the 28-80. Although switching in and out of macro mode, you need to push a button, instead the continuous focus for 28-80 or 35-80. Also, the focus distance in none macro made is pretty awful. Something like 1.5 meters. _________________ Follow me on 500px |
