there is a sample with this lens.
Weather was no good for a real test session.
I am not convinced with this lens.
It is too smooth in the borders.
I can't understand the goal of a wide angle smooth on boards...

Not too bad - but you are right about the softness. It is more obvious following the samples we had recently of the nikkor 20/4 from Chris.

I agree.
It isn’t (Wasn’t) one of my favourite lenses but I got better results than that on both film and crop DSLR.
I sold my copy because somebody offered me silly money for it and I regret selling it. I will replace it when one comes my way at the right price.
I would agree with the Tamron site write up

Is this the first Adaptall 2 lens (from 1979)?
Just got myself the 01B version of the AD2 24mm f2.5, charity shop for £25.
So far I am liking what I see as a walk around lens on a crop body (Nex 5N)
Good general purpose FL for crop (36mm equiv), sharp enough to the corners, and very good centre sharpness wide open.
MFD of under 10 inches, at f2.5, gives nice wide closeup shots with good, if not super smooth, bokeh. |

Way back in 2009, I did a comparison of the Tamron 24mm f/2.5 against my Nikon 24mm f/2.8 AIs. The test was using my APS-C Canon XS (1000D), which was the best I had at the time (only 10.1mp). So obviously, I wasn't able to evaluate corner or edge sharpness. Still, the results were somewhat surprising. Scroll down about halfway to find the tests:

Thanks Cooltouch. I am finding very acceptable centre performance at f2.5, which is good for candid portraits.
I think the coatings are going to be an issue. Front lit shots show some definite flares and glares. However, what I like about vintage lenses is their character, so sometimes flare is just what you want! |

I have only one experience with the a late 24mm which was poor and I not as good as the SP 24-48mm zoom. However, I would not rule a Tamron out based on one sample - they seems to have major variation between copies. Past experience across several 17mm lenses has been anywhere from awful to good, with my best experience being one with mild fungus! |

Thank you on your comments.
I bought this lens only due to 5 aperture blades as I needed something wide for landscapes to give me nice sun stars, 10 rays. I have Flektogon 20mm f2.8 but it has 6 aperture blades which give 6 rays sun stars. When choosing Tamron, in the same time I had to unfortunately give up on Pentax 35mm f2 (6 blades) and since I don't have 35mm prime lens it was not an easy decision, but I went with Tamron believing I could use it properly. I though that in crop mode I could always have 35mm (24mmx1.5 crop factor). Turns out that Tamron 24mm is pretty good for portraits at f2.5 in the center which is all that is required. And it is good to try wide angle portraits too.
Two more samples of environmental portraits I did with Tamron 24mm f2.5 on Pentax K-1. They are both at f2.5.
And some more at f2.5
