Hi,

can anyone tell me the difference between T mount and T2 mount lenses?

I have a 1960 Yashica Pentamatic and a Pentamatic-T2 mount adapter, and I'm trying to get macro and telephoto lenses that will fit it.

I can't find any information that distinguishes "T-mount" from "T2-mount", on the web, but that doesn't make me confident that they are the same thing.

Can you possibly recommend a macro or telephoto lens which will fit (preferably as small and lightweight as possible) and specify what terms are equivalent, eg is "T mount" = "T2 mount" = "adaptall"?

I need the lenses for fieldwork - hence would rather not lug around huge lenses if I have an alternative - as I'll be walking 30km/day in the cold, damp Arctic summer...

Thanks!

I got this mail , please try to answer on questions.

So, it looks like T mount and T2 mount are interchangeable.

Sorry to say I don't know much in specific. The T/T2/T4/Tx lenses I've seen have tended to be large-ish for their focal length and aperture.

Here's a good site in Euro-land:

There's a bit on T mount teles here:

Here's something on Spiratone and Tamron teles:

some current US ebay auctions (hmmm have to learn how to use the ebay link)

As far as i know is the difference between T-mount and T2-mount that a T2 mount adapter has some extra screws, which makes it possible to adjust it so that your distance and aparture figures are in the right position. In a T2 the outer ring can turn around the inner ring.

My earlier post seems to have failed to post ?

Well, if it shows up, this is the short form -

T and T2 = same thing, don't worry, be happy.

What is a T-mount lens - often the listings don't say, you have to guess. Almost all third-party (*not camera manufacturers*) Japanese preset lenses are T-mount. Sometimes this is not true, i have made a couple of mistakes, but 95% of the time it is so.

Some brands - Almost all (there are some exceptions) Soligor preset, most Vivitar preset (I think there are exceptions here also), Accura, Lentar, Vemar, Hanimar/Hanimex, Kominar, Fujita, Tamron, and of course many others.

Except for Komura ! No Komura T-mount that I know of.

Some camera manufacturers lenses are also T-mount, particularly long teles sourced originally from third parties. I have seen Petri, Yashica, Mamiya T-mount lenses, 300mm and longer.

There are no T-mount macro lenses that I know of. There may be some, but I have never seen them. There are plenty of T-mount bellows though. " target="_blank">Click here to see on Ebay

My Soligor 135mm f:2.8 is a T mount one. It has about the same dimensions as any other 135mm lens (like this http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/1976/reszd11dn5.jpg http://www.taklong.com/marketplace/p/106922soligor-1.jpg ). Not having multicoated glass its contrast is not as high as my M42, Porst MC 135mm f:2.8 lens. For the Soligor I have M42 mount and K Pentax mount too.

Don't forget the soviet A Mount lenses simply use the outer ring of a T2 Mount...

I remember seeing some Hama and Spiratone T-mount macro lenses, 80mm and 150mm IIRC.

150/4.5 to be precise.

I know my Spiratone 400mm f1:6.3 is a T2-mount and I got a MD adapter for it easily, and its definately not small.
That reminds me that I also saw a T2-mount adapter to allow you to use a camera with a telescope to shoot astronomical pictures . . .
