I guess all of my 50mm lenses will have problems with my 5D's mirror
I went out to our park shooting landscape but when I had looked at the viewvfinder I just saw blackness, nothing more! I've checked the lens but it was at f:11 no lens related problem then I remembered the mirror issue subject and just turned a bit the lens to remove then heard the mirror down sound, oh no! Then again it happended and I just turned the focus ring down from infinity and again the mirror down sound. So I guess shaving process is a must for me.
I also have serious exposure problems with 5D but I guess this is not the proper place so I'll open a subject in technical part of the forum. The LCD on 5D really sucks, I need time to get use to it.
* Even 50mm is pretty wide for me so I guess I'll use my 85 and 135mm more than 50mm. _________________ My name is "Yalcin", and exactly "Yalçın" and here you can find my MF samples:

Interesting. I remember a photographer from dpreview forums, who used this combination without complication. _________________ (almost) complete list of Helios lenses |

Portrait mode shot, right side was indeed the bottom side, I guess these black-outs are being caused by the mirror's touch and slow down.
full size version, 5D, ISO100, 50mm, was f.11 I guess, 1/60:

Shaving the lens sounds safer than shaving the mirror, but also shaving mirror is more practical as I've already 3 lenses having this problem. How do you shave the lens as I guess the touching part is the surrounding of the rear element. _________________ My name is "Yalcin", and exactly "Yalçın" and here you can find my MF samples:

Sure, I made the same conclusion. But I haven't yet shaved the 5D...

The same way Cogitech shaved the 58/1.3 Rokkor : http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/
But I've used very grinding stone for knife instead of a file.
On SMC Tak 50/1.4 it doesn't have to be done on all the rear metal ring, only half part on top. Please don't forget to protect the rear lens element. I'm using Discofilm for that purpose. _________________ Switching from M42 to Minolta MD & Contax/Yashica |

Being not able to focus infinity with my Planar 50/1.8s is not nice as I was going to use one of them as a walk around lens so the mirror modification process is the rpute that I'll follow. And here is the ide:
