Hi

I just got a rather clean and minty looking Praktica L with Oreston 50mm 1.8 Zebra. The lever and the shutter are stuck. Is there a way to repair it ? Thanks.

I am sorry if it on the wrong thread.

Kris, I moved this to the correct place for you.

I would guess the way the shutter and mirror work on the Praktica is similar to most other cameras. It's a domino effect, in that one operation triggers the next. The shutter button releases the mirror, which then releases the first shutter curtain and so on. The film wind lever is unlikely to be jammed itself - it's probably stuck because the double-exposure lock hasn't been released, which is the last operation in the cycle.

Most of these type of problems happen in my experience due to lack of lubrication of the levers which release the mirror. If you can find out where these are (often under the bottom plate) you should be able to release the mirror fairly easily and lubricate the mechanism.

Sorry, I've no experience of working on Prakticas myself but I'd suggest you try searching on the Classic Camera Repair Forum.

Here is part of a message I found there from member Don-m which might help:

"If you remove the lens and look in the front of the camera - on the upper left side, near the back, there is a square metal tab. This tab is hung up - not sure, but I think it probably has to do with the double exposure prevention lock up. Take a small screwdriver or pen and push the tab towards the rear of the camera while trying to wind on/press the shutter release."
