Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I can't use shims to adjust it. So what can I do?
I have a Canon Rebel T3.

Is it possible you have installed the focus screen wrong side upwards?

Thanks for the reply. I tried to follow the instructions carefully, using the photos as guides, but that idea did cross my mind.
Is there a way to tell if the screen is facing the wrong way?

I don't know if your screen is similar, but the convex face on mine has to be at the top (viewfinder side) and the flat face downwards (mirror side). There is a small recess all round the edge of the convex side which locates in the mounting frame.

I believe I remember I had mine upside down the first time I installed it! Smile

Okay, thanks. I will give it a look and take it from there. Then I'll reply.

Thanks again.

I looked to see if it was in properly as you described and it was. I tried it the other way and it was totally out of focus. Then I placed it in the proper way again and the same problem remained. Too bad.

Thanks for the tip though!

I saw some feedback on Amazon about a focusing screen available through them and many people had the same complaint as you.

Interesting..
According to Canon the Screen for the Canon T3 can not be replaced. That might be because the view finder is quite small and
maybe of too poor quality. Even the more expensive Katz Eye screen which works with most other Rebel models does list list the T3
as compatible. The T3 is the entry level model DSLR.
Any way I will try using the screen for a while as the prism might be helpful. If I make some adjustments when I focus perhaps I can get some sharp images.
But maybe I could get sharp images if I make adjustments for my eye sight and for the poor and smaller viewfinder without using the screen.
Fortunately I have 30 days to return it for a refund.

I thought of something else. When I first put the screen in it wasn't seated properly in the frame - it needed jiggling slightly. I wore a rubber glove and put finger pressure on the screen and moved it slightly, and it dropped into place. I say dropped, but it was only a fraction of a mm. I guess it was just the depth of the recess around the edge.

If that doesn't work it might be that the screen is the wrong size for the frame. You can check this off-camera if you have the brass shim - it should fit nicely on the screen. It might be necessary to cut some of the screen away, but it risks damaging it.

I can look at it again. There was a shim that I removed and that helped some. I don't know if I should risk cutting some of the screen away, I'm not so good at that sort of thing. Did you have to cut away part of yours?

I tried it again and it still doesn't seem accurate. However with the split screen I can make adjustments with practice.

I would like to see if I can improve my focusing with the prism for trees or buildings that are further away to pick up the details better.

After taking photo after photo to test this screen out I am not sure if it is the right solution for my focusing problems. I still have to rely
on my eyes to see a clear prism or a straight edge through the T3's small view finder. The screen also makes the view darker which
is harder on my eyes.

I should more posts and see what i can learn.
