Would have posted this in the Big Soligor Thread but there was conversation going on I didn't want to hijack. I picked up a lens at a local Goodwill last night and don't have any info on it. It's a Soligor 80-200 C/D F4. I have a C/D 3.5, purportedly made by Sun, and there is a ton of info on the 80-200 F4.5 which is a Tokina, but I haven't seen any mention of this F4. Anyone have any idea of the origins? Serial is 17800569.

I'll post a pic in a few. Looks modern, maybe Tokina as well?

Ah, looked at Tokina 80-200 F4 and it looks like the same lens. That and the serial starts with a '1' I guess seals it, but I wasn't aware Soligor had rebadged this one.

Curious that there were f/4.5 and f/4 Tokinas.
Anyway, looks very nice.

I find it curious too Luis. I guess Tokina had the capacity to explore lots of different designs, tweaking, lowering costs etc. This 80-200 is like many Tokinas I have. It's not super exciting, kind of generic looking, suffers from CA until F8, but boy is it sharp...

These are OOC jpegs from NEX-6 at 200mm, some color adjustment to get rid of the blue and magenta fringe but no sharpening.

The 70-210 / 3.5 CD is the same, there's CA - but it's a lovely sharp lens. I think it's the same series as this 80-200. I like them.

Agree Lloyd. Soligor had many variants in that range in their C/D series, an 80-200 3.5, an 80-200 4, an 80-200 4.5 and the 70-210 3.5, and probably others. Tokina made tons of lenses for Soligor and others for years and they're all good lenses, very sharp. Tokina's late 70s and 80s lenses all seem to have a lot of CA, but I would rather have a sharp image with fringing than a soft one.

Tokina was on my NEX when I pulled up at my house tonoght. For those at the mercy of the Polar Vortex, here's another perfect Arizona sunset for you, wish you were here...
