I've had "The Beast" Smile for about 3 weeks, but due to really bad weather I haven't had much chance to use it. I've managed to put together a few shots taken over these weeks!

For such a big lens, it performs really well, it has a nice soft bokeh and is pretty darn sharp. The macro performs pretty nicely too!

#1 f3.5 1/250s 70mm ISO400

#2 f3.5 1/200s 220mm ISO200

#3 f3.5 1/500s 220mm (macro mode) ISO800

#4 f3.5 1/160s 220mm ISO800 (handheld!!)

Man that D40 does some nice rendering and it looks like lens and handler are a good fit

This lens definitely is a sleeper! Some excellent glass.
Perhaps the best zoom lens I have.

Well, sadly the images are missing (at least for me) from the original post in this thread.

I took some lenses as partial trade on another lens today and one of the lenses was the one being discussed in this thread. I've been doing a few minutes research and it appears that this lens was made by Tokyo Optical Company (Tōkyō Kōgaku) and sold under various labels including Soligor, Spiratone, and Bushnell.

I'm also finding references to an Asanuma 70-220mm f3.5.
Here is a screen capture of a Dec. 1978 Popular Science article on zooms that seems to describe my lens:

Mine is a Spiratone Pluracoat with a serial no. of 7900644. It takes 72mm filters and is a f3.5 (all focal lengths). It has a built-in sliding hood.

This is the same lens:

I've found several posters referring to it as "a good performer". Mine is a PK mount. It weighs 3 lbs and has a tripod socket (thankfully).

I'll have to try some shots with it and post the results.

Here is my same lens at $9.99 (53.50 with shipping): http://www.ebay.ph/itm/Asanuma-70-220mm-f3-5-Auto-Zoom-Pentax-M42-Lens-Mint-/110714483010 and apparently unsold at an asking price of $125 http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/635561
