Hello everyone I know there are different coatings in the SMC and the Super Takumar what I wanted to ask are how great are the differences. Ive been eyeing different Takumar's should I stick with SMC versions in the future or are the Super Taks just as good. I have no complaints from the one's I have. I just need to know if im missing something better for future buying purposes.

People are stupid ! I guess you met with this fact already. They believe multi-coating is a magic. For example black sonnars going on double price than zebra. I love much more my zebra lenses than black MC!

I think most of the time you'll only see the difference if you like taking pictures of the sun. Frankly, if I was to go with any of them go for the ones marked "super-multi-coated" instead of "smc" because these have a cheaper rubber focusing grip rather than the sturdy metal ones. But don't replace any lenses you have now! The single-coating is a good one! Just if you think you want a different focal length for the future.

I have a few Super Taks - and find them just fine! Lots of atrocious lenses have multi coating, and as Attila will agree I suspect, many a single coated lens is overlooked by 'coating snobs' who would not recognise a great lens by its results, only its specifications?

A bit like thinking that a 100watt rms >01 distortion spec. hi-fi will make barry manilow sound like Sinatra? lol

SMC coating versus non SMC tests has to be done with sun in the field of view as it's one of the feature announced by Asahi Optical Co. Ltd : reducing the amount of reflected light.

See this article from AOIC.it : http://www.aohc.it/selart07e.htm

SMC stands for Super Multi Coated, while Super Takumar are juste M42 Takumar lenses with auto aperture pin. Thus, all SMC (or earlier Super-Multi-Coated) are also "Super" Takumar Wink
