Hi!

Had an idea the other day. Here are two shots:

Evolution of semi-pro cams:
Canon EOS 40D & Sigma EX 1.8/24 (closest to a fast normal AF lens I have for crop)
Canon EOS 50e & Canon EF 1.8/50 II
Canon FTb QL & Canon FL 1.8/50

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II & Takumar 1.4/50
Nikon F & Nikkor-S.C 1.4/50
Canon FTb QL & Canon FL 1.8/50

I plan to compose a comparison of these cams. Just need to find the time...

Hi, there.
Nice Canon family portrait, something like grandma, mom and daughter. Also great whole steel and brass classics. And besides excellent compositions, I like very much the 2nd.

Mmmh, that would be interesting Smile.

Excellent portraits, Carsten, and what a cute Nikon in the middle of the 2nd! Wink Looking forward to your shots with the F.

Nice sets Carsten but I'm confused. Confused

What are those round plastic things on the two Canon bodies?

Wink

Really?? Can you really not identify them?

Good grief they are PLACE HOLDERS awaiting a lens being fitted to the body - like a decent Planar 50mm when acquired!

Goodness me... Smile

Doug

That Nikon looks tasty... and the pics are great...

I recently got a really beaten up FM which had a 'useless' 50mm 1.4 S lens on it - useless the guy explained in detail because it was not indexed ya de ya de ya...

I sympathised with, and encouraged his disparagement, until I got it and the camera for 7 dollars and a Canon body cap I had spare... The FM turned out only to be very very grubby on the outside and cleaned up just fine.. The lens with appropriate adapter now sits proudly on the Panny L-1...

It is the PERFECT lens for this application as it may not have the Zeiss 3D of my Planars or the small size of the Oly OM 50mm 1.4 or the silky smooth action of the SMC Super Tak 1.4 BUT.. it has a truly ENORMOUS aperture ring that is easy to grasp and turn (those on the others are fiddly and often too close to the body as they were designed for open aperture metering where you would set them without the camera being held to your eye, whereas with the Lumix it is focus (and confirm without needing a chipped adapter....) with the camera to ones eye, then immediate shut down of the aperture (again with the camera at eye level) and snap... The focus ring is equally gargantuan so it is, from a mechanical perspective, the perfect 50mm fast lens for me!

Pictures taken using the beast will appear after the wretched sun does, which means July the way things are going in dark dreary dismal western Oregon!

I will definitely do that. I already have an idea how I will present that on a website. I just don't have the time at the moment. But soon...

Gawd, I love the rangefindery good looks of that L1. Doug, if you can
remember, pop that in the mail to me, thanks! It would have a certain
poesy, too: Behold the lummox with the Lumix! Laughing Seldom see them on
the bay and when you do, go for crazy money.

Carsten, don't know if I told you, but you're the 4th owner of the camera:

1. Army photojournalist in Vietnam
2. Willed to his nephew
3. Me
4. You

I love the special sheen of chromed brass. Analogues: may they live on.

Doug, is that a rubber hood on the front of the lens? Do you
use it as a plunger to unclog sinks? That is just wrong, Doug, OK? Laughing

Nice idea. You say the nikon has had some tough times but they all look very nice in the pictures. Its cool seeing the different makes setting together and getting along. I still get a kick out of the Bimford. I wonder if the toolman has one like it.

The pictures are really well done. Looks professional.

Kind of off subject but what are they setting on? Is that your porch or deck. What ever it is I really like it.
