Images taken with Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f2.8 black Exakta version , this is rarest and latest version from this lens. Many thanks for Hari I am proud owner of a mint copy on bargain price. Thank you mate!

#1 straight from camera converted from raw with default settings.

#2 auto contrast & color

#3 manually adjusted levels

for me the contrast gets progressively too high. The first is natural, the others are a bit too dramatic... tho the clouds get spectacular. I'd probably try not to have the image tone go all the way left and right on the histogram, but work with curve slope in the middle...

I like #2 the best as it is the best bits of the other 2.

The others are good, #1 is natuural but not so much pop, #3 looks a bit fake, but that doesn't put me off. It's art at the end of the day.

Nice PP - real dramatic scenery.
So the world is how we like to see it.
Let's PP our thoughts - what will happen?

I would go for 2 as best, though I quite like 3 as well, maybe its a bit too contrasty but composition is good Very Happy

I like the first one best, I think it's a great photo! Why not try a dramatic B&W version??

I like heavily modified B&W only, still have to learn it.

I think this photo is very good for a strong B&W!

Fun! But I would like to do it from the original, and see where I can get. I'd rather work with a RAW for my B&W's, but you can get a nice impression with a JPEG too...

Certainly you can do what you like. Go ahead.

My standard workflow for B&W conversions, done in LightRoom, but it will work in every other PP program, albeit with different wording...

1. destaurate - this results in a rather flat image
2. set the black and white points - be sure that black is black and white is white, otherwise your photo will be a grey-grey one, instead of a black and white. In LR this can be don in the develop module in the histogram - it has to touch both left (black) and right (white) sides.
3. change the different colour channels - I darkened blue, aqua, and green in this one, and lightened yellow and orange a bit.
4. play with the channels. I did not do that in this one, because the dynamic range of the original was very good!!!

The purpose of this all: bring out all grey tones between black and white.[/url]

I see there is quite a bit JPEG artifacting in the photo I posted, but you can get the idea, I hope...

i like the first best. Plenty of drama there ...

Here is the new one, made out of your raw file. Did the whole thing, including step 4. And step 5 and 6:

5. Local dodging and burning, to get out details better. Did this in the left upper corner, to lighten things up a bit.
6. Play with the WB - this can give spectacular results. I made it a bit more blue for this one, to get a more dramatic / dark effect.

I still prefer #1! Colour is better than B&W in this case, I think. Laughing Very Happy Laughing

Wow ! Last B&W is very nice indeed! many thanks! My favourite #2 and last B&W by Rense. I guess there is plenty of room to improve genuine one to any direction. Rense please try to make your own color version too with popping colors if possible, I am curious.

The first one Attila....

The B&W conversion is great too.

Another variant #5

Of the colour versions I actually prefer the first. I personally find over-saturated blues a bit off-putting. The second (from RAW) conversion is excellent.

Great stuff!

To pile on Wink I made a color version that is good for me - it is lighter and contrastier than the original, but doesn't go to the extremes of the histogram. I used curves to pump the middle tone contrast and then duplicated the image and blended it in 'multiply' at around ~50% opacity, give or take. Final levels adjustment: a slight (7) deepening of the dark, and a slight reduction in blue.

I made a redundant b&w also, a quickie - using virtual photographer and its red filter, with a bit of dodging and burning for local contrast.

In the end, this is instructive in that there are many still realistic presentations possible, many fairly subtle variations, all valid and each preferred by some.
