Thank you 55 for the pic of this lens torn down. Answered some questions I had about mine (Circa 1977).

Love the lens, but very heavy. My cousin used it much more than I shooting basketball games back in the late 70's. None the less for wear, built like a Sherman tank, it took the abuse and still works today.

You're welcome. I really enjoy the build quality of those Sigma f/1.8 135s.

That also contains a further link to a scanned pdf of Sigma's 1993 brochure from which I quote:

"A new ZEN finish on the lens barrel provides anti-reflection protection, along with tough scratch resistance and a sure non-slip grip."

I'm still waiting for an apology from Sigma for that unmitigated disaster of a butylene / polyurethane / whatever ZEN finish coating!

The number of otherwise still perfect lenses that must have ended up in the bin because of that... Sad

Iv'e had to strip that sticky coating off my Sigma MF 14mm f/3.5. Because that also takes off the screen-printing, I had to re-apply paper labels printed off a template I took from the distance markings & other labelling. Doesn't look perfect but it passes a cursory glance and it is functional.

Nothing beats the durability of a matt-black anodised aluminium finish with paint-filled engraved labelling; i've got lenses from 1959 that still look line new despite heavy use...
