Got the Sigma 21-35/3.5-4.0 for Nikon.
It seems to be a great lens wide open.

Here's some test shots to see the sharpness:

Here's a very similar lens for PK mount, it's f3.5-4.2 but IQ and bokeh the same:

I used to have that one as an AF lens for Nikon and gave it to my dad for his Fuji S2 Pro. It's a very nice lens.
He liked it, but he only used it on a crop cam.

We finally sold it (together with some others) in order to pay for an 18-200 which he preferred for his Fuji.

Very nice sharpness wide open, but I see a fair amount of CA in the above two shots. What about at f/5.6 or f/8? I'm guessing that by then the CA is gone?

If I owned an FF DSLR, this would be a very tempting lens to own.

Yes, they are. Samples made with 550d (t2i)... But the FF camera would be rly nice Smile

Yep, by 5.6 they are gone. Sharpness rly impressed me, on the short end a bit blurry, but on 35mm just wonderful.

The only thing buggin me, is the minimun focus distance of 0.5m.

Yeah that would bother me a bit too. I don't know about other photographers, but I find that the widest setting on a lens that offers a wide-angle range is the one I use most. For example, with my old Vivitar S1 24-48 f/3.8, I find that I use that lens at 24mm most of the time -- simply because that is the most useful and desirable focal length in the entire range.

So when I read that a lens is a bit soft at 21mm I'm really concerned about that. I wouldn't be so worried about the 35mm end, but to me the 21mm end must perform the best. Is this just me or what?

Does the softness on the short end improve when the lens is stopped down to say f/8 or f/11?

I wouldn't say it's soft... it's just soft in compare to the long end wide open Smile When shot glasses, focused on the inscription, on the sort end the letter's are a bit soft, but maybe it's because of APS-C sensor with 21mp, on FF it would look equally sharp I guess.
