Well, I didn't really recommend Soligor or Cosina. Cosina is OK, but it does not stand out. My Soligor is crap, but looks good and is pretty rare, that's why it is not in the trash bin. I simply listed my 24-28mm lenses and how I priced them, which reflects their optical qualities/usefulness.
Out of these, I can recommend without reservations as a general purpose wide-normal on APS-C: Canon 24mm/f2.8, Canon 28mm/f2.8, Minolta MD 28mm/f2.8, Komine made Vivitar, and Tokina RMC 28/f2.8.
I also recommend Hoya HMC 28/f2.8 as a great change of pace lens: it has nice rendering and interesting colors, it will give you excellent landscapes at F8, but is weaker wide open than the Canon for example.
Fujian 25/1.4 is a specialty lens: it's tiny, fast, and great fun if you are into lensbaby and similar toys or want a bit of trashy look. It's useless for landscapes.
Cosmicar 25/1.9 is tiny, fast, and can be setup for crazy macro use. Basically it's (a lot) better quality Fujian, but still not good enough to be a landscape lens. |

Great to hear
I have a Tamron 10-24 (AF) but the CA is awful and my big toe is sharper. Hopefully this Tokina will bring my wide-angle smile back. _________________ Gary

Mine was US$23 shipped, heh heh. And it will definitely be used in Sedona -- I'll be there for a few days, probably next week. Too bad I didn't bring the Zenitar-K2 16/2.8 on this extended journey. The wide and wide-normal MF lenses I may exercise around Sedona include:
Vivitar Series 1 (Cosina) 19-35 (PK-A)
Super-Lentar (Tokina) 21/3.8 (M42)
Vivitar (Kiron) 24/2 (stuck iris) (PK-M)
Super-Paragon PMC (Cimko) 24/2.8 (N/AI)
Vivirar (Komine) 28/2 CFWA (N/AI)
Access (Tokina?) P-MC 28/2.8 macro (PK-M)
TOU / Five Star (Sun) 28/2.8 (PK-A)
I previously mentioned all those except the Access 'macro'. Not *really* macro, it just goes to 1:3.7, but that's quite close enough for many purposes. Close-focus distance on the Access is 11cm; the Vivitar 28/2 CFWA only goes to 17cm. The Access is quite sharp enough for me. I should probably add it to my 'recommended' list. _________________ Too many film+digi cams+lenses, oh my -- Pentax K20D, K-1000, M42s, more
