Why is the bokeh showing out of focus hightlights as rings like a mirror lens?

Seems to be sharp, but that is the most horrid bokeh I have ever seen! Shocked

Bokeh is awesome, I love it! Very Happy

Really looks like Mirror-lens bokeh! Since it was made for a special video camera, does it have a half reflecting spot in the middle of the lens (was used to measure reflected light)? That could explain it.

It has a spot filter, as Schneider calls it. They claim this is an advantage for motorised aperture lenses.

Lens appears to perform very well, but the bokeh is way too distracting for me.

Yep, that's it. I remember having seen that....so no wonder it has that sort of bokeh wide open!

Thanks for posting but not one to put on my wish list, I think the bokeh is far to extreme

The bokeh is extreme, but these are by far the best shots that I've seen from this lens. Love the rose against the church, the woman, and the Brussels cap.

When I called that bokeh "horrid", I did not (only) refer to the doughnut-shaped highlights.
The general rendering and separation of subjects in the ooF areas are dreadful IMHO. Sorry, my 2c.

I thank the bigeyes for posting images from sometimes unusual lenses and wish to see this continue.

This greatly expands the depth and scope of this great resource.

I'm 100%with Lucis on this. To me, the effect looks like the way Hollywood alters film when characters are under the influence of narcotics.

The lens glass coated with ND filter, not a mirror Lens.

Crazy Bokeh!

That said, I can see some shots that would benefit from it, but far too little to pick this up unless I suddenly came into a *lot* of money. I am hesitant to ask what the list and street prices are, given the lens specs. I can't imagine it's cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

I see one being sold for $555 recently (with a dented filter thread) Click here to see on Ebay and I remember one selling for $2K (insane IMHO) two years ago when c-mounts were all the rage on m4/3.
