I got an Sands Hunter (Tamron ?) 135mm f3.5 with oily iris blades and i tried to dismantle the lens. I easily removed the helix and glass but i got stuck here, i cannot see how to open the iris. Any help please?

Pictures ?

I may have this lens. I have not dismantled it but I have dismantled other of the old Tamrons and they have similar designs.

Oily blades is not a problem on preset lenses unless the iris/diaphragm is stuck.

This is an old Tamron, I think the 860. I got two of them, one as Sands Hunter on T2 mount and the other one a Weltblick (from Carsten) with M42 mount. It's a preset lens, very lightweight.

Kind regards,
Jes.

Hi Piticu,

The whole front lens cell unscrews -

This is the same as the old 135/2.8, 180mm and 200mm Tamrons.

So you can get to the iris/diaphragm blades -

I think you can clean them from here with lighter fluid. You will have to clean the lens behind afterwards though.

Thanks again. Yes, i've managed to reach at that point too. I've removed the helix too. But the remaining iris is extremely oily so i was thinking to break it apart in full Smile

Hi Piticu,

If you removed the helical, it should be possible to remove the lower iris ring. There is a screw on the bottom of it.

Take that off and I think you can remove it.

Then there is a screw connecting the outside iris ring to the inner iris ring - thats the part just over the blades. I think if you remove that you can lift out the inner iris ring. Then you can take out the blades.

But I think that you shouldn't do this if you can avoid it. Its not so easy to put the blades back together. If they are not yet dislocated, try everything else first. Put the whole thing in lighter fluid if you have to.

I've remember how much hard time I had putting back a 5 blade iris so I took you advice Smile
After two drops of lighter fluid and a dozen of cotton buds, the blades look clean. Too clean i'd say - I'm afraid that I over „rubbed“ them, now they look like almost a mirror, they're no matte anymore.

Hi Piticu,

It doesn't matter, the blades can look shiny, thats not a problem.

Do they work ?

I was thinking that if they're shinny that will cause more internal reflections. But they work perfectly Smile
I'm waiting couple of days more to get a new grease for helix and then i'll put it back together and post some pics.
Thank you for your advices and concern,
Cezar
