I've got the Samyang 135mm T2.2. I was impressed with the performance of this lens compared with Canon EF 135mm f2L and the Zeiss ZA 135mm f1.8 and I was lucky to find a cheaper one (only $490 for the cine version, which is normally sold by $750). I did few quick shots using Canon 6D. This lens is really great, it's sharp wide open and there is no CA at all!

The lens: I was surprised to find out that this lens is just a bit bigger and longer than the Samyang 35mm T1.5.

Sample shots at T2.2 (click on the photos for the link to the full resolution on Flickr)

Tests at different apertures: the below photo is the 100% crops of the above photo (T4) at different apertures. The sharpness is almost identical from T2.2 to T5.6, amazing!

Whow, looks impressive good from your images!
I have to remember that I do not want another Samyang (because of build quality) - and after the Sony A7II have have no more money for such a lens.

Thank you ZoneV. I know the problem of lens build, especially after disassembling and trying to fix the 85mm f1.4 last year. However, it was the problem with the first generation of Samyang lenses. They did a better job with second generation lenses and even though they're still not very good, I don't have any problem with them so far.

The main problem with this particular Samyang for me is that used 135L is just $200 more expensive.

I thought that too, so actually I bought the Canon first for just $600 but it was out of stock, then I changed my mind and get this one instead. With more $200 you can get AF on Canon, slow AF on Sony, but the quality is worse, such as the soft wide open and CA. Check this comparison, it's very interesting: http://lcap.tistory.com/entry/Samyang-135mm-f2-vs-Canon-EF-135mm-2-L
One more reason I got this one is I already had most of other Samyang cine lens, I need to get the full set for recording.
For the non-cine version, when the price is down to about $400, I think this lens will be very competitive.

Thank you Alex!

And by the way, since tomorrow I will attend the graduation ceremony for my PhD, I used this lens for a selfie (I have no other model to test the lens now). It's still hard to believe this is a wide open shot, the level of details is incredible (maybe not really good to shoot girl portraits, though Laughing). I did some color adjustments and added vignette but I didn't sharpen the photo.

This is impressive for only 1/4 price of the Zeiss Apo Sonnar. Wink

Indeed, and I can see the smooth transition that make Zeiss lenses famous in this piece of glass!

I am sorry, I do no read Chinese, and the devil is in the details here. How did he focus, and how many samples, MFA, MLU and so on. I am a bit incredulous that Sigma matches Canon at f/2.8 which is not at all what I see, say here, or that Samyang does not seem improve significantly from f/2 to f/8 in those infinity shots. All that being said, IQ I generally see from 135L is excellent, and AF, and just as importantly, automatic aperture, are totally worth $200 to me.

Congratulation, doctor! Quite an achievement. And congrats on your new purchase as well. Very Happy

Somehow I cannot find the discussed lens in your link. Sad

B&H was taking pre-orders for the new Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f2 at $599, and it's now $549.00.
Your samples look pretty amazing !

It's in Korean, not Chinese, that's why he got the lens early. It was not very convincing to me too, that's why I need to see it myself. I tested the Canon 135L before and the CA is noticeable at wide open, not as clean as with Samyang. Cheap second-hand 135L is really good and of course, it deserves extra $200, it didn't mean it's not worthy.

@tao: thank you very much. You can check the link again in my previous post, it's working.

@littleearth: it's quite weird that the official prices for Samyang lenses are always higher in Korea and cheaper in US. The cine version is still around $720 here Sad

@Minolfan: Thank you, I was happy but my face is not good expressing that haha

Tomorrow I will take this lens out and shoot more samples, I'm really excited.

More samples today, but this time I used this lens on NEX-6 with Focal reducer. Image quality is still really good but the vignette can be seen, maybe because of the adapter. All shots were at T2.2, except #10 was T2.8

Great pop! Seems that this lens has good micro contrast Smile
