You're welcome!
My copy is also soft wide open. It seems that four elements for this lens is overkill. Ricoh could've easily achieved such softness with just three elements. Or even two.
(By the way, are there any fast fifty-ish lenses with just two elements?)
Actually, I must admit I do enjoy soft look lenses. I like them for impressionistic type flower shots.

It may have been intentionally made this way for portraiture. Soft focus was very popular in the seventies
I've noticed the glow seems to be worse near the center than it is to the sides. _________________ pentaxian |

So there is a consensus Riconar is soft wide open? Probably simple triplet then. |
I took apart my copy for cleaning and found it has four elements. There's one at the front, then a two element assembly and then another single at the rear. Only the first element sits ahead of the iris.

Hi all!
I have an XR Rikenon 55mm f2.2 lens which I took apart for cleaning. First time. Ofcourse, the rear len popped right out and I have no idea if the flat side should face the mirror (I guess no) or the other way.
Could anyone help?
Thank you! |

My example is "flat side to the mirror"
Enjoy! |
