Hi - another newb !

I've just purchased a Helios 44 Preset Lens to use with my DSLR (with AF confirm M42 to EOS Adapter). A have a few questions that someone may be able to answer:

Would any of these 52mm lens hoods work without Vignetting?

I'm assuming that the 1st one might be better (longer, deeper)

For Lens cap - any generic 52mm?

For back cap - any M42 fit ?

- or maybe I could use an existing EOS lens cap with m42 adapter in place ?

Thanks in advance for any help
Cool

EDIT: URL fail Rolling Eyes

The links don't work. If you want I can measure my Pentax hoods for the 50 and 55mm when I get home tonight.

The preset is 49mm, if we're talking 44 or 44-2. If 44-3 this may be different, but I don't have one. I don't use a lens hood on mine as the front element is recessed quite well.

A normal lens hod should be ok. You can even use some telephoto lens hoods if using on a crop sensor DSLR. If you attach a lens hood it's likely that the lens cap cannot be fitted with the hood in place. Have a look at the 3 in 1 hoods.

For back caps, I'd use a simple EOS cap or any of the M42 rear caps. I tend to keep my adapters in the EOS caps to protect them.

As above, I use any 49mm hood on my Helios 44M and have ordered bulk lots of M42 screw caps via Ebay. Cheap and fine for purpose.

Whoops! My mistake. I meant 52mm hood.

OK - I seem to be having one of those days. Can't paste the URL's..

My mistake with 52mm Smile 49mm seems to be the order of the day for the hood & lens cap. It's an original 44, not the 44-2 according to the writing on the front.

So let's see if I can paste this correctly !

The first 49mm lens hood one is a straight tube:

The second 49mm lens hood is a petal:

EDIT: 3 in one hood ? any links ?

Click here to see on Ebay Cut & paste the item number of the ebay item, highlight it and hit the `EBAY' button and then they should work.

Are you sure you don't have the 44M? That is 52mm. Have you a pic of the lens?

OK - I got your link. I've looked at these rubber hoods for some of my other lenses , but thought that they might be a bit heavy for the screw thread ?

Here is the item that I won on Ebay (still awaiting delivery!)

It's a 44-2.

You don't need a lens hood really, but no harm in adding one if you really want one (49mm thread). The rubber hoods weigh very little.

Our member HK300 can get you a nice hood if you PM him.

Thanks Martin - even after searching the big Helios 44 thread I didn't realise that the 'Helios 44' mark meant 44-2 Embarassed

I'll probably leave the Lens Hood for a while to see how I get on - End cap & Lens cap are a good idea though.

Now for a decent 28mm and a CZJ 135mm.

It's started.

CZJ is a great 135, make sure the iris is functional as these may be problematic. If it's not listed as working, ask the seller.

For wider, the Takumars are great. One gem I found was the Ensinor 24mm which is also found under the Clubman brand. These can be found in a number of mounts but it may make sense to get M42 as you have the adapter.

Ta for that about the 28mm - I'm scanning Ebay as we speak !

I just missed out on two CZJ 135mm's last week - I've got a more realistic idea about the price now. I'm looking at the later MC version - looks pretty solid.

I have the MC.

28 was a focal length I skipped as I have a 30 & 35 which are very good. But again, the Super & SMC taks are pretty hard to beat.

For 135s, I doubt you can buy a bad one. The CZ is very good, but just have a look at something you can afford and ask for opinions here.
