Noticed that my meter in the BX20 was sticking at 'under' when activating the meter, eventually got round to trying another lens and hey presto meter is working fine. I was only using the camera and 50mm lens combo a couple of days ago and all was well but now its not metering. I've cleaned the contacts and tried at various apertures but nothing.

Any ideas?

I'm experiencing exactly the same thing with my Praktica 50/1.8 on a BX20, how weird! I have the 2nd version of the lens (branded Carl Zeiss Jena) and that meters fine.
