I sympathise with your problems loading 35mm.
Are the little ball bearings at the entry of the spiral free to move about? Just a thought.
If you want a real pain in the rectal area try loading 120 Shanghai GP3 into Paterson Spirals. It has more curl than a clock spring, even when processed & dried!

Wow, you dug up an old thread of mine.

I cured the problem by switching to stainless steel spirals. Now loading is flawless and very quick.
