I've seen them go for under $400 on Ebay, and recently there was a little frenzy (which I totally missed out on ) where one seller sold multiple copies of it for under $250:
I'm in no hurry so I'll wait for my chance to score one for a great price _________________ Sony α7R, Pentax 67II, Kiev-60, Hasselblad 203FE, 903SWC, Graflex Norita 66, Mamiya M645 1000s, Burke & James 8x10, Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic (4x5 and 3x4), Century Graphic (2x3), R.B. Rawhead those sub $250 f1.2s he sold were kind of faulty, little bits of fungus and dust, the good ones were at $500 or best offers. I scored one of the not so brilliant ones for $200 and will need to do a bit of lens cleaning on it. |

Yeah, I figured as much. Not that I wouldn't mind spending time cleaning some fungus (and ignoring dust) if I can save $200
I still think a "good" price for the A 50/1.2 is sub $400 and a "great price would be right around $300-350. The "A" version is desirable because of the ability to set aperture on the body as well as the EXIF info _________________ Sony α7R, Pentax 67II, Kiev-60, Hasselblad 203FE, 903SWC, Graflex Norita 66, Mamiya M645 1000s, Burke & James 8x10, Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic (4x5 and 3x4), Century Graphic (2x3), R.B. Sub $400 for an -A on the open market is a great price. They won't last in that range, at all, if they are ever offered. new in box examples regularly fetch $500-650+ on ebay, from Asian sellers. I saw that frenzy near the end and indeed there were good prices but some issues too. I missed out on it also.
I think I paid about $480 or so for an as-new-in-box -A 50/1.2 a few months back. It was/is totally mint, had a pentax filter, box, etc. Of course I promptly gave it a leverectomy and de-finning so I could use it on EOS (film) camera.
That was the best deal I had found up to that point and I havent' seen them get cheaper since then, for like-condition examples. Be prepared to hold your breath for quite some time to find a mint one under $400 on an open market.
it is a great lens though. But I think overall the Rokkor 58/1.2 might be better. |

The rokkor just seems sharper wide open, and with less coma flare in the corners than the Pentax. I need to do more testing, but that's the initial impression I have. |
