Stupid other thread with all the talk about German / Russian Glass. I can't remember!

Which Pentacon 50mm f1.8's had the auto/man switch on the side to control the aperture

When I say which one, I mean as far as I know with the pentacon name plate, in M42 at least, there was a;

-Zebra looking one
-Green distance scale font plastic looking one.

Or have I confused this auto/man switch swith a Tessar DDR that might have been similar?

From what I remember the "Zebra" looking one had that button the side where one could stop down the aperture manually, and i just have a feeling that the other one had that switch... but I kinda remember taking one apart and adjusting the aperture control so it was always depressed? Maybe that was a DDR Tessar?

Ah oh wise ones. Help Me! Razz

I believe the Tessar was made in the Zebra style, but don't think the Pentacon was..... I may be wrong Smile

The forebear of the Pentacon - the Meyer Oreston came in the zebra style and some copies did have a funky switch on the side.

This one has a manual/auto switch on the side.

Interesting. My Pentacon 2.8/100 has a similar zebra style. On the side it has an little switch to depress or release
the aperture pin and then it has the rectangular shaped button to close down the aperture blades. Mine however
is with an Exakta bayonet mount.

sounds the same as the one above. Smile

#edit, wait a switch and a button. Ah I only think that Pentacon 50mm above had a "button"

because it was right at the back of the lens however, mounting it on my pentax dslr used to mean the button would rub against the k-mount locking pin or digital contacts or something.. and it used to stay in the direction it was pressed Razz

Here is my Pentacon on the K-10D.
As you can see, there is room for the M/A switch to move.
Cheers

You can see Oreston's button here: http://vintage-camera-lenses.com/meyer-optik-gorlitz-oreston-1-8-50/
I am sure there are also early Pentacons like that.

Yes there is room for the switch to move on the K10, the earlier one (as is the case in that Oreston there) that button up the back used to sit flush enough to get stuck into position, which was a good thing!

But yes anyway... $40 later a clean looking MTL3 and a Pentacon 50 (green looking Multi coated one) one it's way to me know Embarassed

This is I confess the first piece of equipment I have bought in a loooooooooong time. I hope this isn't a relapse. It really is just to keep the Tair and Jupiter company...

I swear....

Every version is great from these lenses, I love them.

It was the first manual lens i used on a digital cam, still like it, and decided to get the various models, in the pic below you see three different versions, of which i believe the left one does not have the same multicoating as the newer versions. To my knowledge and comparisons with my Meyer Oreston lens the "zebra" shares the optics from the original Oreston in terms of coating.
You can also see the button to activate the aperture.

Second picture shows the original Meyer lens.

It looks kind of nice though. I have a couple I got with lenses I was buying. I should put a roll of film through
one. Last time I checked the light meter was still working. I could take it out with all my Pentacon lenses.

BTW, does ASA 100 = ISO 100?

Yes, indeed!

I used an MTL3 as well not so long ago, some results with a Pentacon lens on a short tube, lots of grain, very expired Ilford film:

Thank you! Is that top camera a tube camera, using 120 film? I'd like to get one some day. That looks like a nice one.

The pentacon/meyer lens are beautiful ones.

Very cheap, usuable in almost all the oportunities.

But when I have to use one normal lens, well my options are another lenses.

But I like them a lot.

If one friend of mine ask me about which manual normal lens to buy, I should say pancolar.

Horacio.

Ah well my postal system didn't destroy it. Camera is in ok condition (usual glue dried up around the grip)

Lens feels nice too!. smooth, aperture clicks nicely, focus smooth, but doesn't stop down. Razz Oh well, it will give me something to do tonight none the less!

And I cant wait to introduce it to the rest of the family Razz

"Tair 3, This is Pentacon, Pentacon Tair 3 doesnt get out much, but he's ok.
Jupiter 37 say hello to Pentacon, Pentacon. Jupiter 37 is a little flarry but I'm sure you'll get on fine.
Industar this is Pentacon. Pentacon, Industar and your are distant cousins, I'm sure You'll have a lot to talk about Razz

So this explains why it felt so nice to adjust. The thing is literally bathed in goo! Laughing

It also explains why the aperture is failing, the goo has more viscosity then the spring that should be opening it Razz ah well. time to find the kero.
