Hallo!

I tested the pentacon 300/4.
The other objectiv is a pentax faj 75-300 (new), not in the picture.

The pictures will show the difference

The tower is in the corner, but the new zoom get great problems with thin stacks.
The big one handle it perfect, the border is also clear like the center.

There is one point: this big lens don´t work without stativ, but the quality is great

regards peter

The quality you're getting from this old lens is the perfect witness of the bulls**t the marketing gurus are pouring into us: "you need our new 8-300mm 2.8L AF stabilized with 30 asymmetrical lenses (and can also make some coffee while the camera is on stand-by) to get all the quality from the new digital world". Sure, sure...

The other way of looking at it is that it would be extremely costly to make lenses like this in todays world. The skill is not available at low enough cost to make these things at anything near the prices they are selling modern lenses.

Modern lenses substitute technology for craftsmanship.

If you think about it, the real prices they sold these lenses for in the old days was enormous. A Meyer lens like this in the US in 1965 would have gone for $400 easily, which in todays terms would be about $2500. And that was with extremely low-cost labor in the DDR.

To make this lens now, in the same old way, it would have to sell for how much ? $ 5000 or more I think.

Now we can play with the old ones for $200. Every one is a bargain.
