After picking up a £3.75 bargain lens from a local charity shop I thought I ought to grab a few opportunities to test it out. Unfortunately the weather has not been kind, with overcast cloud every time I've been out..


Some test shots in the garden during the week, checking the bokeh..






A trip to the boats..





I'm very pleased with the results, given the price I paid. And as it's finally got the M42-EOS adapter out of the drawer and onto my 40D it can only be a good thing.

Very nice results, the price you paid makes them even better.

I used to have the preset version of this lens but it was very soft even stoped down and sold it, good you found a much better copy !!!

Thanks for the comments, it's a fun lens to use.

I think all of these are at f/4, and I've wanted a 135mm for a while as I like the look of that focal length. It feels very cinemetic with the right subject. I need to get used to the metering with it as it seems to drift as the aperture closes - or that could be a quirk of my (cheap) adapter.

Looks good, brilliant for the price paid! I think you can get a replacement focusing screen for the 40D (EF-S) which will sort the metering out, but will give you a darker viewfinder.

I switched to the EF-D screen a while ago, I have only a few fast lenses - although I do use them 90%+ of the time. I didn't realise changing the focus screen could improve the metering with manual lenses. As I only really intend using the lens at f/4-8 I think I can live with it for now.

I'm not sure if it's the same with the 40D, but with the 5D and 6D I also need to configure the camera to understand which screen is being used, to ensure metering is accurate. By the way, I don't use adapters with a chip...this may be the other cause of differences if you are struggling to get successful metering.

I have a non-chipped adapter as well, I can try that and see what effect that has - but for the time being I like having focus confirm until I get used to manually focussing with a small viewfinder (I'm spoiled by the viewfinder on my RB67 Pro S).

The menu option is set for the EF-D, and it meters without problem for modern lenses. I suspect it's the chip.

Better late than never, the lens itself..



And from the front, squeezed between a pair of Zeiss cousins..



This really shows how much smaller it is in build to either of the Zeiss lenses.

My ver is similar but different, it has 15 blades and it give good results. I bought this lens plus Helios 44-2 plus camera for £1 (no one wanted it Shocked )...........As people seem to like WO shots here is one:-

BTW the M42 Zenith camera with case worked perfectly but was too old for me and threw it away as I don't think even a charity shop would want it.

LBA Wink This is a problem we all suffer from to some degree...how could you not buy a lens going for peanuts, even if you don't need it.

This is the closest I could get with a CZJ 135mm f3.5 Sonnar, same time, same film, same apple, and WO....for comparison.

£3.75 because I was able to haggle the Prinzgalaxy and a Pentacon auto 50/1.8 (both in excellent condition) down to £7.50 for the pair. Can't turn down a bargain like that.
