Hi.

I received new old lens Planar 85 f1,4 CY.

It is in excellent condition, except for the fact that I see this speck on the lens.
From the picture looks milky white, but is actually white almost transparent.

It depends on the direction in which the ride, sometimes you can see, others do not.
In fact you do not see here:

It looks like a dried droplet of water, though it is not removed.
Also in backlight is not a sign or a chip / splinter.

What do you think?
is to send it back?

Thank you for your support

Regards

Pasquale

Going by your first picture, it is certainly fungal growth. It may stay that way forever, or spread in the future - unfortunately it's not possible to predict with certainty exactly what may happen.

If the lens has been sold as in perfect order, I personally would return it to the vendor. Better safe than sorry with an expensive lens.

that's fungus.

Yep, definitely fungus. It has that "organic" look to it, a water droplet would have a more regular shape.

If it were my lens, I would ask for a partial refund and then clean the fungus off myself (glass elements are easy to dissasemble and clean, IMO), but if you´re not confident in doing that, I would recommend you to send it back. Also, if the fungus is located in between two glued-together elements, I would definitely send it back, as that is more or less impossible to clean.

I would ask the seller to decide between either a full refund, or partial refund and in the latter case, have it cleaned by s professional repair man. My guess is, this shouldn't have to be too expensive.
