Anybody here have experience with the OM 4? I picked one up as a portion of a lot with some valuable lenses. It was sold "untested" but when I got it was snapping OK. Started in a 36 roll of Kodak and about halfway through it stopped working. The winder lever moves only a bit and acts like it is ready but the mirror has not returned and it won't fire. I can get the mirror down with the little lever on the inside of the front beside the mirror and then it "snaps" and the mirrot pops up, but shutter does not move. It is in remarkably good shape and I would like for it to work but I can't justify spending a bunch of money on it right now. Anybody?

I had one quite long ago. Can’t help you exactly with your problem, but its electronics are not very realible. Had mine repaired. When it works properly it’s about the perfect 35mm camera IMO.

Have you tried switching to manual speed of 60th or B and then fully wind and release?

I finally got a chance to try the b or 60 thing. Alas, to no avail. I am torn. I dearly loved my first OM camera, an OM-1, that I still have, it still works! I am torn, re this camera. The camera is in fantastic cosmetic shape. But I got myself a bit behind on my lens payments visa and I can't justify paying to have it fixed right now. I think I will just set it aside for the time being.

I assume you already removed the film. Set to 60th or B. Try gently cocking the rewind fully. If it doesn't go to the end, keep a gentle pressure while turning the taking spool with you thumb. Just an idea. I had many OMs and some had the same problems than yours. Hope it works.
