Hi, I have a nikon d5300, and I'm looking to upgrade, Iḿ interested in Nikon D750 and D800E, both are in my budget, around US $550 , used.
Iḿ looking for Nikon because i like to use the camera with a Nikon Nikkor 400mm F/3.5 Ai-s ED IF MF Manual Focus.
The main difference I see is the megapixel, 24 vs 36.
What will be the best choice?

Both cameras you mention are fine.
I think the D-810, or higher would be a much better choice with it's much quieter shutter for birding, which may give a little more time for bracketing shots. I don't really pay much attention to pixel counts, although 36 Mp is pretty impressive on full-frame.

You will likely notice a slight need to get in a bit closer with the sensor size change.
If the shutter sound is not really an issue, I'd go with either of your choices.
The extra 150.00-200.00 for the quieter shutter is worth it, especially when you can get in close to your subject.

Upgrading from D5300 DX-sensor to D750 or D800E Full-frame sensor? You know the 400mm lens will not reach as far...

Can crop 36mp image more than 24mp.

Reading about the d750 I realized this camera has AA filter, is this characteristic enough reason to prefer the D800E?

This question is best asked on a birding forum, not a vintage manual lenses forum

I'm pretty sure there was an A/A filter in my D-200, which didn't seem to affect much of anything.
I've got some wild turkey photos with it somewhere in my files as well as geese, and they appear fine to me.

Maybe there are other MF birders than are here. Smile

In any case this post belongs in the Digital SLR Camera sub-form here at MFlenses. Moved it there.

I honestly would not go with the D750. I got one as a back up for my D850 and to be honest I did not find it a very good fit for the kind of bird photography I do. The IQ is very good but the buffer is very small. If you need to go to Ch, the buffer fills up and the camera frame rate, which is already kind of slow, goes down to practically nothing.

The D800 or D810 would be a better fit. The IQ is higher resolution and the buffers are larger.
